“To live is to leave a trace.” Gilly Beal is a British visual artist based in Singapore.

From 2003, she studied in Singapore with British artist James Holdsworth and exhibited in several group exhibitions at his artist-run space Block 43.

The series of works in the Frame Society’s exhibition are made with parts of a bamboo plant, which I found when exploring the jungle around my apartment off Holland Road. It was interesting for me that the discarded encasing around the bamboo stems look like giant ink nibs, and the mark making looked like a drawing of bamboo.
