She has also worked as a part time lecturer for 10 years at Lasalle College of the Arts in Singapore. MORE ABOUT HELENE CARPENTER

“The paintings themselves seem to have a life of there own. I focus on the thoughts and emotion behind each series of painting and during the painting process they emerge. Nearing the end of finishing a painting there is always a lot of refining to do, balancing colours or figurative elements to complete the visual dialogue for the viewer to read. In ways too numerous to calcify into words, all the paintings are very important . Each time a collection or body of work ends, I keep one painting to ‘feed’ the next series and remind myself of the links to create between physical and intellectual practice, whilst simultaneously documenting a personal search into the important things that are slowly revealed through the quotidian ordinariness of daily life.I was delighted to find so much purple in the jungles of Singapore (red and blue, stem and sky ). It is a base colour that represents the lush richness and diversity that is unique to Singapore. Mixing greens (Blues and yellows) helps you understand how the sunlight filters through the leaves causing photosynthesis and for me the oxygen production is the silent life force. Its beautiful.”
